Analyzing the Obama Recession

"Using Obama's own numbers. we are now worse off than we would have been had Obama's stimulus had not gone into effect."

More:
"During the stimulus debate, Obama took the dishonest position that Congressional Republicans wanted to do nothing to help the economy recover. It turns out doing nothing might have been the smarter move. "

Not electing this disaster in the first place would have been a smarter move, too.

But we already knew that, and we've been saying that for more than a year now, haven't we?

"Might" is the operative word. They could have just as easily been even worse than they are now had we done nothing. We have absolutely no way of knowing.

Predicting the future state of the economy is by no means an exact science and touting the fact that the economy is worse than predicted is no argument that we shouldn't have done it. And I know, Bubba, you never actually made that argument.

Take none of this as a personal endorsement of the stimulus bill. My stance at the time (which can probably be found somewhere in the N&R's LTE) was that a stimulus bill was necessary, but the one passed was not near optimal.

"Obama took the dishonest position that Congressional Republicans wanted to do nothing to help the economy recover. "

I don't recall Obama taking this position. I've searched for an Obama quote indicating that this might be true. But the majority of what I found indicated Obama's willingness to reach out to Republicans, but the leadership in the House and Senate weren't as interested.

But, we have this quote from a Republican Congressman, "The administration strikes me as open to our suggestions, and we made a number of them," - Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Of course, the fact that I didn't find President Obama framing the debate like that doesn't make it so, but the fact that I can't find it is suspicious. Since you've made the claim, would you mind backing it up?

    Many thanks.
