Bob Kerrey: "Iraq is central in the fight against radical Islam"

.....which is something those of us who have had our eyes wide open on this subject have known for a long, LONG time.

Details at Opinion Journal.

Key point:

"With these facts on the scales, what does your conscience tell you to do? If the answer is nothing, that it is not our responsibility or that this is all about oil, then no wonder today we Democrats are not trusted with the reins of power.

American lawmakers who are watching public opinion tell them to move away from Iraq as quickly as possible should remember this: Concessions will not work with either al Qaeda or other foreign fighters who will not rest until they have killed or driven into exile the last remaining Iraqi who favors democracy.

The key question for Congress is whether or not Iraq has become the primary battleground against the same radical Islamists who declared war on the U.S. in the 1990s and who have carried out a series of terrorist operations including 9/11. The answer is emphatically 'yes.'"

Kerrey has it pegged.

What part of what he said does the appeaser/surrender faction not understand?

  1. A Medal of Honor winner has some credibility with me in the war against terrorism ( although I am still ill with him for helping defeat George Allen in Virginia )

  2. Kerrey is saying what many of us have known and believed for years.
But I doubt the mainstream Dems will pay any attention because it runs counter to their attempts to unseat the Republicans from the White House.

  3. I am of the opinion that Iran and it's drive towards nuclear weaponry should be of far more concern than terrorism. Iran is just months away from this goal according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, and yet no one seems to be talking about it. And of course if we take Iran out as we surely must soon, then that will settle the terrorist problems at least in the Middle East I would think. That is if we take out Iran and scare the Hell out of the rest of them and then get OUT of the area.

Have you seen the lastest poll of American Muslims? 40% of the young Muslims believe Suicide bombing is justifiable. BB

  4. Iran is fighting the US and democracy by proxy in Iraq.
Moqtada al Sadr and the Mehdi Army are supported, funded, and encouraged by the Iran government and have been since at least early 2004. Moqtada al Sadr is merely a pawn of the Iranians and pursues the strict Islamist society the Iranians impose on their people.
A nuke would be just another tool in the Iranian's toolbox, one they can use to hammer "non-believers" into submission.

  5. Exactly Jaycee, that is why I wish some one, either us or Israel, would take out the nuclear plants in Iran before they have this real WMD to hold over the heads of all of us non-believers. It would also certainly remove their interests from Iraq. I simply can not imagine the world allowing Iran or any Muslim country for that matter to get nuclear weapons. One thing I do know, it will have to be done under Bush just by the off chance that the cowardly Dems win in 2008. The Dems won't fight. (sigh) I have blogged on this so much that anyone who reads me knows I am rather frantic and a blooming fanatic about the issue. BB

  6. BB, don't be embarrassed that you're fiercely protective of our country's freedom and democracy!
I saw on the TV news this morning that Moqtada al Sadr had just returned to Iraq after 4 months in Iran and immediately made a fiery anti-American speech to his supporters.
Moqtada al Sadr is an Iranian stooge and a very dangerous man.
