Those are two dead links at Caerdroia. Where's the original article or interview? To whom did he make these statements? The blog you link to doesn't say, and neither do you.
Gee Bubba, thanks - that was really helpful, and really expanded my knowledge. This blog is a real boon to the community conversation, and you're a priceless treasure.

Please share who assigned me the task of doing your research for you.
Were you not more curious than your superficial examination of the original article to attempt to find the answers to your questions yourself?
My reply to you was legitimate. Too bad you have an attitude about it. Based on your past contributions elsewhere, I can't say that I'm surprised.
You brought the topic up -- obviously you want people to read your blog and know about it.
Yet, you couldn't care less that your source's sources went AWOL at midnight.
Is your agenda just to taunt and ridicule with this post, accuracy be damned, or are sources and verification important to you? Should we believe anything we read here, or should we always assume you're making it up and go do our own research to prove it?
The question then becomes, of course, why would anyone invest time reading what you write, thereby creating work for themselves in independent research, because you totally devalue the idea of credibility?
Are you saying it's too much to ask that you back up your information with real, verified sources? If it is, then what standards do you use to determine what is truth and what is fiction? Do you just know it when you see it? Does it interest you to have standing and respect among your peers, or is this blog just a middle finger to us all?
Big thumbs up Bubba!! Don't cha just love these people who feel they have the right to come on your site and tell you what to think, and what and how to write? Dear Lord, spare me mad dogs and supercilious fools!******I found the entire essay good reading and agreed with all but the tax cuts bit. I personally didn't agree with the tax cuts, and the enormous deficit scares the beegeez out of me; not for my sake but for my children and grandchildren who will have to pay the bills. BB
Brenda, I wouldn't want anyone telling me how or what to write, so I certainly don't intend to do it to Bubba. There are standards for reliability and fact-checking, and they're pretty universal. Dead links concern most bloggers. They don't concern Bubba. That's fair enough, as I said. It just demonstrates a lack of concern for his readership, on which I commented, as often happens on blogs which enable comments from the general public.
I really don't think I hurt Bubba's feelings on this. He's a big boy, and he set me straight on a bad assumption I made. I'm a big Chewie, and I accept the correction and wish him well.
"It just demonstrates a lack of concern for his readership...."
No , it doesn't. It just assumes that the readership does not obsess over a set of arbitrary standards that were never agreed upon by the blogowner. I realize that that may be too big an assumption for your particular sensibilities.
If you are really that concerned over the "standard" you mentioned, and if you really disagreed with the quote (from another blog), you would have taken it upon yourself to do the research, or contact the owner of the original blog to ask for source material, or you would find access to Lexis-Nexis to located the source material.
This space is, after all, a PERSONAL WEBLOG. It is akin to a diary in nature, one which I choose to share with others via this space.
I am not competing for the Pulitzer Prize in journalism. If I was, different standards apply.
I am not responsible for any reader's lack of intellectual responsibilty and initiative. That includes you, Chewie.
OK Bubba. Write what you want how you want, and I'll read what I want, and comment where I want how I want.
Oh wait... we're already doing that.
I did do my own research, so you can stop telling me to. Was I supposed to come back here and write a term paper for you? Nobody told me.
I don't "disagree with the quote", whatever that means. Your dead links made me wonder about its veracity, and I thought you might want to know that and fix it.
But there I go again, assuming that you care what effects the words you write have on the readers who read them. Silly me. I forgot this is just a diary that you accidentally publish onto the world wide web where people accidentally stumble upon it through blog aggregators, and that you have nothing but contempt for the people who are interested enough in what you write to check it out and respond.

ReplyDeleteWhy don't you ask that question of the original poster?
ReplyDeleteDo you believe he didn't say that?
Try a professional search engine, if you really don't believe the quote.

Bill Clinton spouted out so much meaningless effluvia to garner support it's hard to find something he DIDN'T say at one time or another.

Look,Chewie....
ReplyDeleteI would love to accomodate you, but I don't have Lexis-Nexis. I am also not responsible for links on other sites that don't work.
I post things that I find interesting. Some people like it, some don't. Discussions and debate sometimes take place.
Agree or disagree with what's posted, and state your reasons. Engage, rather than look for some minor issue to complain about.
Stop annointing yourself as an authority figure in procedure and content. Stop taking yourself so seriously.
One more thing:
"Does it interest you to have standing and respect among your peers, or is this blog just a middle finger to us all?"
The answer is no.
"Respect among my peers" is for bloggers who are interested in Technorati ratings, hits, ad revenue, ad nauseum, ad infinitum.
I am interested in none of those things.
You are free to think of me and this blog in whatever fashion you like. It makes no difference to me.
I don't care.
Fair enough.

(yawn)
ReplyDeleteWhatever, Chewie.....
Don't let the door hit you in the posterior on the way out.
