Affordable health care clinics for many

The affordable retail-based health care clinic concept looks like a good choice for people who elsewise may not go to get treated for certain things.

More, from Carpe Diem, which also provided the first link.

I'm not sure about the future of this concept, however. It's likely to pose a threat to the onset of Obamacare as an efficient way to reform health care.

Watch for pushback.

  1. I believe these clinics are a very good idea Bubba. We have Urgent Care here in Greensboro which I had to use once on a Sunday when a bad cold got worse and since my lung operation I tend to panic when breathing gets difficult.

It worked out very well and the examination and treatment I got was what my own doctor would have prescribed. I saw my own doctor on Monday just as a double check.

I was also reminded of the HMO's the military made available to Active Duty and retirees both as a sort of clearing house before making an appointment with one of the regular doctors on base. I used these for several years for colds, ear infections, blood pressure checks and prescription refills. Worked very well.

The one thing I do disagree with is the pediatricians attitude about them. So many times children are brought into the emergency rooms for a cold or scrapped knee. Things I didn't even consider taking my children to the doctor for, I might add. So I think these clinics should be perhaps staffed with people who can see children.
I think these clinics should be set up to work with Medicaid patients rather than having them go to regular doctors for every thing or hospital emergency rooms. Right now the Health Departments have clinic hours that are too limited.

My daughter, who is a Respiratory Therapist, claims she often trusts Nurse Practitioners more than regular doctors because they are more careful during examinations and diagnosis than sometimes harried and sometimes "arrogant doctors". Her word not mine! Working in the hospitals she sees all kinds. :) BB
