Sometimes the WaPo writers make me laugh.
Don Boudreaux points out yet another effort at triangulation by the front-runner for the Dem presidential nomination.
Great analogy:
"Calling Hillary Clinton 'a dedicated free-trader' is akin to calling Bill Clinton 'a dedicated husband.'"
Recall that Clinton 42 completed the negotiations for the NAFTA treaty and pushed it through an uncooperative Democratic Congress (Democrats pointed to both NAFTA and HillaryCare as contributing to their defeat in 1994).
ReplyDeleteAlso, recall that Bush 43 pandered to the steel lobby shortly after taking office and placed tariffs on steel imports that lasted for 20 months until the EU got close to levying retaliatory tariffs.
Even Greenspan's got good things to say about Clinton 42.
BTW, Bill's marriage history looks absolutely stellar compared to Rudy & Newt.
This is about Hillary, not Bill.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, I would not hold up NAFTA as a shining example of how free trade is supposed to benefit the partners involved.
"BTW, Bill's marriage history looks absolutely stellar compared to Rudy & Newt."
Technically, yes.
Real world, no.
