As some of you may remember, I am no great fan of government schools.
For the most part, they waste time, money, resources, and generally do not educate students very well, unless you count indoctrination into Libthink as a positive item.
This article examines some of the myths that people like to cherish, and use as an excuse to keep the status quo functioning.
Summation:
"That work will be especially difficult because powerful interest groups with reasons to protect and extend the prevailing mythology will oppose any rethinking. But with time, and diligent effort by truth-tellers, reality and reason have triumphed over mythology in many other fields. There is no reason they can't prevail in schoolhouses as well."
Do any of these myths sound familiar to followers of our Guilford County Schools System?
Great article! But the myths are so embedded in our thinking that they can not be dispelled. In my years in education I preached the truth with every class only to have half my students (future teachers) disagree and my superiors suggest I tone it down. Brenda
