Dunno. If you were to put Bush and Reagan next to eachother, I would be hard pressed for you to prove to me that Reagan was more conservative. At least in the area of Executive power and control.
Did Reagan favor a pre-emptive attack strategy? Did Reagan favor eliminating social security? (did he, I honestly don't know).
Of course times are different now then they were when he was president so its all relative I guess.
"I think some of the questions could be structured better...."
No doubt. Most of these sound more like sound bites from "hannity and colmes" than true conservative vs. liberal issues.
and, i agree with potato, bush is not a true conservative. he's expanded federal programs, entitlements, federal spending, and federal powers. he's also weak on illegal immigration.
imho, he has as much in common with joe liberman as ronald reagan.
Ouch! That's a scathing thing to say Anyom, especially someplace like this. Sounds about right though.
So what you and stew are saying is that *true* conservative values equate more with Libertarianism than the current state of the Republicans? Is that correct?
28 here.
ReplyDelete15 for me.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, where would you guys place George W. Bush on that scale? I'd put him at 36 or 38 myself
Not that high. Low 30s, perhaps
