Regarding CNN's "Skin Deep: Racism in America" series

Blunt words from Star Parker.

Excerpts:

"It ignored the most destructive and widely prevailing racist attitude in our society today, one of which both blacks and whites are guilty. This is the attitude that blacks cannot be held to the same standards as whites."

"These problems will not get solved if the hand of the state remains on the bicycle seat of this community. And the attitude that we can't let go defines today's most virulent strain of racism."

"It's a racism of diminished expectations. A racism that says blacks still need special treatment in education and job placement, that we can't give black parents freedom to choose where to send their kids to school, that we can't let low-income black workers build wealth through a personal retirement account, instead of paying Social Security taxes, because they won't know what to do."

And yet we continue to have various truth and reconciliation processes that call for "reparations" and entitlements, and continued "dialog".

  1. Bubba, I really need to take a look at your roll of favorite sites. I ran across Townhall.com by accident a while back and it is now on my "must check" list. I have spent a week working over my post on this very same topic. Not to copy you but mine will probably be posted later this week. In my usual style I rant and rave rather than refer and allow the reader to arrive his own conclusions. I only disagree with Ms. Parker on one thing and that is Social Security. Am not yet sure that private accounts are the way to go because it will lead to the pols then cutting back on the guaranteed benefits no matter what returns people have on their own investments. Don't yet have a good idea what should be done however. BB

Again, there's a certain group of politicians who don't think people can be trusted to make good decisions on their own regarding management of their own retirement affairs, because "that's what the government is supposed to do".

But you're right about the cutting of benefits.

Watch for a "means tested" basis to be imposed for Social security benefits.

  3. Bubba I have been advocating for a means test for social security for a great many years now. It is a fact that it takes a little over two years after starting to receive Social Security every cent a person has put in has been returned, and thereafter SS is Welfare for the Elderly. Now I am not opposed to welfare for the elderly who need it, but the drain on our young people forcing them to give money to those of us who don’t need it is reprehensible of us. And yes, Lew and I are taking ours and putting it in a trust for our grandchildren because the way things are going they will certainly need it.
Every once in awhile I do a posting rant on greedy geezers who have created a lot of the problems we now have with their demanding all these social hand outs. Entitlements for the elderly now take up 40% of the federal budget whereas the Welfare Mothers everyone yells about is standing about less than 1% of the budget. Our parents and our generation have really feathered our nests! BB
