C'mon, Dems! Let's Get Busy on THIS Issue!

What's our exit strategy in Philadelphia?

Noteworthy:

"Young black males have a greater chance of being murdered in Philadelphia than a US soldier has of getting killed in the Iraq!

"But one can also find something equivalent to combat conditions on home soil. The death rate for African American men ages 20 to 34 in Philadelphia was 4.37 per 1,000 in 2002, 11 percent higher than among troops in Iraq. Slightly more than half the Philadelphia deaths were homicides."

Quagmire!

Civil War!

It's all Bush's fault!

Bush lied, Philadelphia blacks died!

It's a racist plot to flood the city!
(oh wait, wrong city)

  1. There are good reasons to stay in Iraq and good reasons to get out, but this misleading death-rate comparison doesn't provide any ammunition for either side's argument. GP's own commenters explain why.

  2. Yes, someone does need to get busy on this issue but it is not a political issue. (tho I understand your point here Bubba). In fact, politics and political actions are the root causes. I think however some are trying to bring about changes: Juan Williams (Enough....), Bill Cosby, Thomas Sowell just to name three. These homicides are Black young men killing other Black young men. The White constructed Welfare State which was supposed to help the poor, coupled with our politically correct tolerant attitude towards self destructive behavior have instead very much damaged poor Black society to this point of self hatred. They are the only ones who can turn themselves around. I mourn for these young men because I was a true believer in the reforms of the 60's and now find that I can do nothing to help the situation I advocated and watched develop. BB

Some people MAKE it a political issue to fuel the fire of misdirected anger and resentment. Guess which political persuasion bears most of the blame for this?

My comments were meant to satirize the BDS crowd's usual nonsense on subjects like this.

    Your comments are absolutely correct.

Those people you mentioned are getting all sorts of flack for telling the truth about the Culture of Entitlement and Paternal Government that is the underlying cause of most of the difficulties.

  4. Cherry pickin is always fun. A better comparison would be how many Philadelphia police officers are killed per man year. After all, we are the peace keepers in Iraq.

How many Iraqis of carefully chosen ethnic groups and ages die in comparison as well?

Also, if we factored in Iraqi security personnel how would the numbers read? How about if we made it American troops killed or crippled vs Philadelphia Black males between the ages of 24-30 killed or crippled by violence.
