The USS Nashville (LPD13)
You may have seen her on the tube the last few nights because of her role in evacuating Americans from Lebanon to Cyprus. Had this event happened in late 1970 through mid 1972, your obedient servant would have been in the thick of co-ordinating that deal.
In case you're interested, SM2 Bubba's home was on the very top two decks, as hotshot signal watch section supervisor, when he wasn't playing super slick beach resident during an amphibious landing.
Good work, guys. We're proud of you.

ReplyDeleteThe Old Girl has lots of memories for me in the time i was aboard.
Like the night in Barcelona, when we managed to sneak that girl past the......ummmm, maybe that needs to be left unsaid.
Lenslinger has started the tradition of telling a story when his ship was featured this week.

ReplyDeleteI recently found a photo taken from Nashville's starboard bridge wing in January 1972. There's a story to be told about the circumstances under which it was taken.
