Elections have consequences, pt 2

Are you one of the conservatives who want to "send a message" to Republicans by not voting for them next Tuesday, or even worse, voting for a democrat in your house district race?

Think hard. Think VERY hard about the reality of a Demmy takeover of the Congress.

Excerpt:

Make no mistake, the liberal Democrats whose ascendancy seems imminent, led by Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, have plans for you. Oh, they’re not plans proclaimed loudly from mountaintops because this might give the peons second thoughts. Nor are they plans whose design will serve us. But here are some other things to expect if liberals take the helm.

1. The border fence will never be built. Remember that it still has to be funded (there’s some question as to whether it will be funded anyway), and San Francisco Pelosi and her ilk will never let that happen.

2. Expect an effort to repeal the partial-birth abortion ban, the law that prohibits what is nothing less than infanticide.

3. There will be efforts to raise taxes and institute wasteful, inane programs and politically correct policies.

4. We will be subjected to an endless barrage of witch hunts, investigations of the Bush administration animated by vindictiveness and designed to cripple traditionalist initiatives.

5. There will probably be an effort to resurrect the “Fairness Doctrine,” a mislabeled piece of regulation that would force talk radio to give liberals equal time. However, it would target only conservative dominated talk radio, while ignoring the left’s hegemony in the more influential mainstream media.

This is just a sampling of the socialist agenda elements that will be pushed by the liberal Democrats, should they seize control of the houses."

The implications are far worse than you think.

It will literally take MANY YEARS to undo the damage caused by just two years of a Democrat congress.

Slandering the troops: Business as usual

And this clown wants to run for President again?

Direct quote:

"You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don’t you get stuck in Iraq."

Unbelievable!

And if the Dems' "Get Out the Vote" campaign isn't enough

.....they have a fall-back plan that involves Hugo Chavez, one of their heroes.

However, rest assured that the Republicans will get the blame if both plans fail.

Regarding the Dems' "Get Out The Vote" campaign

The strategy used in this story is sure to be used by Dems across the entire country in two weeks.

Webb's in trouble in his VA Senate race

This type of indicator is usually right.

The money is going to the GOP position.

When will this outrage stop?

The latest in the farcial Duke Rape Case.

Maybe Nifong ought to get the N&R's crack investigative staff involved so that he can label the three lacrosse players racists.

A lively discussion is then bound to occur at Ed Cone's blog about what the players' punishment should be if they're guilty as charged. And I'll be accused of coming to the discussion with my mind already made up.

The Lefty Bloggers were all up in arms

....over the supposed censorship of the Ditzy Tricks' new movie, "Shut Up and Sing", telling the tale of their awful oppression they went through in violation of their Right to Be Obnoxious (disguised as a free speech issue).

Now it turns out the Lefty blogger buddies were played like a fiddle.

(hat tip: Sister Toldjah)

Look at the nonsense Lex's favorite Sock Puppet spewed:

Glenn Greenwald: "The networks are still a very powerful public opinion instrument, and allowing them to become political propaganda venues — where messages that 'disparage' the Leader are prohibited while all sorts of pro-Leader messages are allowed — has the potential to be quite harmful. We seem to be well on our way to that result."

Gaius concludes:

Every single one of you just got played. You got suckered by what you wanted to hear coming from somebody you thought was a hero (or from the corporation representing them). They took you in and used you to give them free publicity.

Why are some people trying to keep the "Blame Wray" meme alive?

......when the focus on the case has clearly shifted AWAY from that, to the actual internal politics at GPD?

Why are there no comments on "progressive" blogs regarding the information in the latest chapter of the Bledsoe serialization whiich indicates the possibility of conspiracy and obstruction of justice at city hall and among elected officials?

Why is there no discussion at these "progressive" blogs about the "press conference" by those who would wish to portry Hinson as a "victim", and to keep the race card nonsense stoked to a fever pitch?

Why?

Elections Have Consequences

Make sure you are perfectly clear about the consequences of the Democrats' Non Contract With America before you vote November 7.

Excerpt:

"But you get the idea. A Democratic triumph would produce a major shift in the national policy debate, and we can understand why Ms. Pelosi isn't plastering most of this agenda on billboards around the country."

"TO THE DEMOCRATS, TO MAKE MUCH OF TIME"

(from Dr. Sanity)

By Robert Herrick Karl Rove

Gather ye Gallup while ye may,
And Zogby and Rasmussen:
The same sweet polls on election day
Just may turn rather gruesome.

The glorious hopes of days gone by,
The exit polls and cheering
Have turned to dust and made you cry,
We still can hear the swearing.

That race is best when finished first,
You taste both House and Senate;
But things might go from best to worst
In just one single minute.

So be not coy, but use your time,
Get ready while ye may:
To blame, accuse and curse and whine
When things don't go your way.

"Imagine" if the Democrats win Congress

(from the Patriot Post US)

"It's worth noting that when John Lennon wrote "Imagine," the
92nd Congress was more firmly in Democrat hands than the 109th
Congress is in Republican hands today. Democrats dominated the
Senate 54-44 and outweighed the GOP in the House 255-180, a near
supermajority. Centrist Republican Richard Nixon did hold the White
House, but he was both weakened by the "quagmire" in Vietnam and
beleaguered by Woodward and Bernstein at the Washington Post.

Then, Leftist vacillation over Vietnam and outcries over what
was claimed to be the Republican owned-and-operated "culture of
corruption" following Watergate easily gave Democrats a House
supermajority in 1975, 291-144. Add to that their 60 seats in
the Senate, and Democrats had a stranglehold on the legislative
branch. When Georgia Democrat Jimmy Carter was elected president
the following year, he completed the trifecta.

So, freed of quagmires and corruption, what did this Demo troika
manage to deliver? Well, there was the "Metric Conversion Act of
1975." Then, under Carter, entitlement spending began growing at
a record pace, even as defense spending crumbled. This compounded
economic pressures at a time when unemployment was rampant, and
inflation and interest rates were soaring to record highs. The
economic indicator known as the Misery Index thus came to epitomize
the Carter presidency and economists were forced to invent a
new term---"stagflation" ---to describe the Carter economy. On
the foreign-policy front, the Carter administration's failure
to support a key ally in the Middle East facilitated the rise of
Islamic fundamentalism in the form of Iran's Islamic Revolution,
leading to the takeover of the U.S. embassy in Tehran by Islamic
students, and the ensuing 14-month captivity of 52 American
hostages.

One again, leftist idealism paradoxically folded in on itself. It
wasn't quite what they had imagined."

It's bound to be worse if they manage to fool enough people into putting them back into power.

Hide and watch.

Revisiting the issue of the shameless manipulation

....by the Dems regarding serious illnesses, here's some information from Michel Steele's web site about the lies his opponent is telling. This is in spite of being portrayed as a "hero" in the embryonic stem cell nonsense being promoted by Michael J. Fox and the Dems.

(hat tip: Fred Gregory)

Wow! It looks like the Dems' actually DID have a program last year!

From my friend Bruce, a retired Navy Chief, comes this valuable information about what the Dems tried to accomplish in Congress last year:

"The following is an abridged list of actual bills that have been introduced by House Democrats this or last year. Browse through the list, I'm confident that some of the proposed bills will absolutely outrage you, REGARDLESS of party affiliation. Can anyone say campaign contributions from Lobbyists and Special Interest Groups???!! *grrrr*"

Maybe you're one of the people who think that Republicans

......use the threat posed by Islamic terrorists to scare people. Maybe you think something like this scenario is hogwash.

Think again.

(hat tip: jaycee)

Excerpt:

"The failure of many Americans, including many of the leading Democrats in Congress, and some Republicans, to fully appreciate the persistent, long-term threat posed to America's liberties and survival, and to the future of Liberal Democracies everywhere, by an Islamic Resistance Movement that envisions a world dominated and defined by an Islamic Caliphate of religious totalitarianism, and which will fight any war, make any sacrifice, suffer any hardship, and pay any price to achieve it, may prove to be the kind of blunder upon which the fate of America turns, and falls. How to Shamelessly Manipulate Serious Medical Conditions for Purely Partisan Political Gains

The Democrats are the experts at this cynical practice.

Leaving aside the crass exploitation of this issue for political purposes, thers this consideration.

Excerpt:

"But it’s strange that Fox has so eagerly bought the promises of the stem cell research community. If Fox thinks that stem cell research offers him (or me) hope, he’s mistaken. Stem cell research, both embryonic and otherwise, right now represents nothing more than a promising theory. If it bears fruit, and that’s a huge “if”, it will likely do so too late to benefit Fox, me, and our contemporaries. In spite of the silky rhetoric of John Edwards-type politicians, dramatic medical innovations come slowly and take decades to pan out, not months."

But, as we are all too well aware, "it's all Bush's/the Republicans' fault".

Barron's Crystal Ball

Says the Law of Unintended Consequences is at work.

Lede:

"JUBILANT DEMOCRATS SHOULD RECONSIDER their order for confetti and noisemakers. The Democrats, as widely reported, are expecting GOP-weary voters to flock to the polls in two weeks and hand them control of the House for the first time in 12 years -- and perhaps the Senate, as well. Even some Republicans privately confess that they are anticipating the election-day equivalent of Little Big Horn. Pardon our hubris, but we just don't see it."

What an unmitigated disaster THAT would be for the Dems!

Victor Davis Hanson on the Left

(from the Patriot Post US)

“Liberal Democrats are beginning to sound like rowdy students on spring break, shrieking and exhibiting themselves on camera. Consider some of the recent rabid outbursts by once sober, old-guard politicians. West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller insists that the world would be better off if Saddam were still running Iraq. Crotchety Congressman John Murtha, of Pennsylvania, rushed to announce that our Marines were guilty of killing Iraqis in ‘cold blood’ before they were tried. Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin has compared our interrogators at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis, while Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry said our soldiers have ‘terrorized’ Iraqi women and children.

Then there is the constant anger from Democratic ex-presidents. It used to be that out-of-office chief executives kept relatively hush... Not so now with Presidents Carter and Clinton. They repeatedly harp about the sins of the current administration...

What sends liberal criticism over the edge into pathological hysteria? Is it that George Bush is a polarizing figure, not just in terms of his Iraq policy, but also because of his Christian Texan demeanor? Or is the current left-wing savagery also a legacy of the tribal 1960s, when out-of-power protestors felt that expressions of speaking bluntly, even crudely, were at least preferable to ‘artificial’ cultural restraint? Why should graying veterans of the barricades, then, remain ‘polite’ when their country’s less sophisticated red-state yokels are taking it in the wrong direction?”

"Leak, Leak, Elect, Elect"

How true!

How very, very sad, but how very, very true.

Noteworthy:

"Leaking classified material in a time of war is bad enough. Selective and misleading leaks - for the blatantly partisan goal of discrediting the president and his agenda in an election year - are utterly reprehensible."

As we already know, the majority of Democrats/Libs/Lefties will SAY or DO anything to regain political, social, and economic power, regardless of the cost to the nation or to the people.

Democrats Play Racism Card in MD

Why is it that Democrats who use racism as a campaign tactic against a black Republican get a pass from the Lame Stream Media?

If the situation were reversed, and Steele was a Democrat being attacked this way by Republicans, the entire country would know immediately how "those evil, racists Republicans are at it again".

Noteworthy:

"This past Sunday was no different. During an event for Democrat and Steele challenger Ben Cardin in Upper Marlboro, Md., congressman Steny Hoyer accused Steele of having 'a career of slavishly supporting the Republican Party.'"

You read it right.....Hoyer said "slavishly".

And these people have the audacity to criticize George Allen!

Hypocrites!

Kudlow: "Facts over Democrat Fantasy"

Kudlow expands the theme mentioned by Will in the post below this one.

George Will: "Prosperity Against The Gloom"

Or to put it more consisely, "How The Dems Want You To Feel About The Economy On Election Day".

Excerpts:

"Economic hypochondria, a derangement associated with affluence, is a byproduct of the welfare state: An entitlement mentality gives Americans a low pain threshold -- witness their recurring hysterias about nominal rather than real gasoline prices -- and a sense of being entitled to economic dynamism without the frictions and "creative destruction'' that must accompany dynamism. Economic hypochondria is also bred by news media that consider the phrase "good news'' an oxymoron, even as the U.S. economy, which has performed better than any other major industrial economy since 2001, drives the Dow to record highs."
It is said that workers' compensation has been stagnant. But to tickle that bad news from the statistics you must treat "compensation'' as a synonym for wages, and then ignore the effect of taxation on individuals' well-being.

Kevin Hassett and Aparna Mathur of the American Enterprise Institute, writing in National Review, say annual wage growth since 2000 has been 0.6 percent, but the annual increase in real hourly compensation, including benefits -- and if you do not include them, why are they called benefits? -- has been 1.3 percent. And taxes -- particularly those paid by middle-class families with children -- have declined substantially."

This is America-- where bad news is good for the Dems, and good news is bad for the Dems.

Is it any wonder they have to resort to fooling people with their mumbo-jumbo in order to get elected?

Questions That Need To Be Asked About the RMA/N&R/David Wray Debacle

I have been avoiding blogging about this issue here on Noteworthy, but it's obviously time to put all the questions that need to be asked in one place.

1. Why are some people accepting the RMA report as gospel, but give no credence to the Jerry Bledsoe information published in the Rhino Times, particulary in regard to the City Manager's motivation and handling of David Wray and the allegations against him?

2. Why is the N&R in denial about the highly unfavorable to David Wray coverage they gave us earlier this year, based on their leaked version of the RMA report?

3. What was the motivation for the original leak? The current series of leaks? Who stands to benefit from this whole mess?

4. Why are many on the City Council afraid to engage the public in discussions of the actual issues this situation engenders? Why do they continue to discuss only the issues that dance all around the edges of the actual issues?

5. How is this situation tied into other major issues, like the Truth and Reconciliation process, the Homestead failure, and the general discussion of a failure of partisan and non-partisan leadership in many areas of the community.

6. Why are so many people just flat out AFRAID of the events as they are currently unfolding, particularly in the blogosphere?

Black Needs to Go, Too....

How many more things like this do we need to read?

Reid Needs To Go....

He's dirty.

Excerpt:

"We need to keep pressing this forward until the Ethics Committee opens a full investigation -- and not just in this deal, but encompassing Reid's legislative activity that kept providing federal land to developers who hired his sons has lobbyists. The Reid family, one of whom now serves as a Clark County commissioner in charge of zoning decisions, has made quite a living off of Senator Reid's land swaps. In this case, Reid appears to have benefitted from the developments that he helped make possible."

Quote of the Day

"I very much doubt, despite the expertise with which the sheep have
been rounded up and set baa-ing, that Showtime at the Foley Bergere
will pay off in November. There are many legitimate reasons for
electors to toss out the Republican Congress, but the notion that
they're a hotbed of gay pedophile enablers is not one of them.

Had Foley dug in and attempted to cling on, his GOP colleagues would
have been all over TV deploring his behavior, calling on him
to step down, expressing outrage, etc. After two or three days,
a few lefties might even have piped up to assail the Republican
theocrat sexual McCarthyites tormenting the poor chap. Had he
actually had sex with congressional pages, affronted gay groups
would have pointed out this was perfectly legal in the relevant
jurisdictions and would have complained ferociously about the
stigmatizing of gay relationships and Democrats would have declared
there should be places for all at the American table, especially
had Foley done a Jim McGreevey and announced that 'my truth is I
am a gay American.'... In the sense that there's any 'child abuse'
going on here, the American people are being treated like children
and abused by the politico-media class."

And from the Dems Crystal Ball

.....here's a look at their hoped-for political activities next year, as described in the America Weakly.

Noteworthy excerpt:

"There needs to be a progressive paradigm shift where real questions are asked.

How much should taxes be increased?

How can we best spend those taxpayer dollars?

Why do the insurgents and freedom fighters of the Middle East dislike America so much, and is our presence in the Middle East an impediment to peace and global progress?”

Even as we speak, these very questions are being feverishly formulated in Democrat brains in wondrous anticipation.

Just like they had for Fitzmas last year.

Something to Ponder

Which potential Democrat nominee would be the easiest to beat in the 08 presidential election?

Here's Jay Reding's thoughts on the subject, and he thinks Hillary is smarter than conventional wisdom might have it. I'm not so sure she's smart enough to fool enough people.

Excerpt (from Comments):

"People’s minds are made up about Hillary Clinton, and they won’t change. As she twists in the wind and hedges her bets on every issue in attempt to play the 'centrist', her unfavorables will only continue to rise because the right and center have convinced themselves she’s a liberal and the left has convinced themselves she’s a sellout."

Regardless, I think her albatrosses are too great for her to bear.

The same goes for algore, Reportingforduty Kerry, and the Diz.

Edwards? A lightweight in 04 who hasn't really gained enough traction for 08, despite the love heaped upon him by some of our local friends.

There's still plenty of time for new faces to appear. Who else should we consider?

On the Republican side, watch out for Mike Huckabee. He made a big impression at the state GOP convention this past June.

The Nietzsche Family Circus

I stumbled upon this great site via link from The Volokh Conspiracy.

I love it!

From the "Free Speech for Me, But Not For Thee" Department

Peggy Noonan has some insight, as usual.

Noteworthy:

"What also seems missing is the courage to ask a question. Conservatives these days are asking themselves very many questions, but I wonder if the left could tolerate asking itself even a few. Such as: Why are we producing so many adherents who defy the old liberal virtues of free and open inquiry, free and open speech? Why are we producing so many bullies? And dim dullard ones, at that."

So where IS the Lame Stream Media coverage on Reid's scandal?

Oh wait! Silly me! I forgot that Reid's not a Republican.

Excerpt:

"Just imagine if this were Bill Frist, not Harry Reid. Calls for his resignation from Senate leadership (probably the Senate itself) would be loud and long, the Senate Ethics Committee would have already convened an investigation, the FBI would have been called in to verify the deeds and signatures and the 527 Media carrion crows would be in full cry. There would be front-page stories about connections to organized crime and lead items on the evening news about how this will sink the Dems' chances in November."

I can only imagine.....

“The United States does not need a multi-billion-dollar national missile defense against the possibility of a nuclear-armed intercontinental ballistic missile.

What we need is a strong nonproliferation policy with other nations to combat the most serious threat to our national security and to the safety of the world – weapons of mass destruction falling into the hands of terrorists who would smuggle them into our cities."

Isn't it funny how The Gargoyle's recent test "clarified" things for the Left?

Take the Poll!

Who do you prefer as our next president?

Hewitt: Dems Have Peaked

Too early, as it turns out. It's all downhill for them now.

Remember that anything less than a complete takeover of both houses of Congress becomes an absolute rejection and humiliation of the highest order for the Democrat Party, and Minister-in-Waiting Kosputin.

It's time for Dingy Harry to step down

The Vast Left Wing Culture of Corruption never sleeps, does it?

Let's let the IRS twist him slowly in the wind after being removed from office in shame.

You KNOW he won't resign. Unlike Republicans who are caught in scandal, Dems NEVER admit they're wrong, and do the right thing by resigning. There's too much precedence which convinces them the rules apply only to others, never to them.

"Yippee Ki-O Ki-yay, M...... F....ers!"

(from Blackfive)

I wonder what Kubrick would have thought of this shot?

If You Think the North Korean Nuke Test Is "No Big Deal"

Read this.....

We need to get this figured out real soon.

Once again, we have proof positive

Tax cuts reduce budget deficits and grow the economy.

Excerpt:

"..The main cause of the deficit decline -- 90% of it, says White House budget director Rob Portman -- is a tidal wave of tax revenue. Tax collections have increased by $521 billion in the last two fiscal years, the largest two-year revenue increase -- even after adjusting for inflation -- in American history. If you're surprised to hear that, it's probably because inside Washington this is treated as the only secret no one wants to print. On the few occasions when the media pay attention to the rise in tax collections, they scratch their heads and wonder where this 'surprising' and 'unexpected windfall' came from."

Just another reason not to buy into what the Democrats have been trying to sell the American public for the last 5 years, and a compelling reason NOT to let them pick your pocket in the form of tax increases, by keeping them OUT of control of the Federal government.

We already know what Democrats are capable of taking away from us on the state level....let's not compound these problems at the national level.

Nifong and the Duke Rape Case

Once again, it's time to ask :

"What kind of case can Nifong possibly have?"

It's interesting to note that public prosecutors are immune to civil liability in cases like this.

Perhaps we should rethink that particular law.

Back from Carolina Freedom Net

I'm no longer a virgin blogger after my attendance at the John Locke Foundation's Carolina Freedom Net earlier today.

Several other attendees have written about this already, so I won't bore you with details that others have already covered.

However, the discussion among the group about McCain-Feingold, and the impact of FEC or FCC media regulations current or future is an important subject for all of us. I'm glad there is awareness of the potential implications in this area.

My other thought from attending this event was that it would be interesting if we had an informal group of local conservative bloggers who got together on a semi-regular basis.

Anyone up for that idea?

Debating the Credibility of Environmentalists' Claims

The old standby absolutist True Believers' "scientific consensus" on "global warming" mantra takes yet another hit, as well it should.

Excerpt:

"That echoed the theme of his keynote address, in which he faulted science and society for falling too easily in line with asserted hypotheses. Mass movements, Crichton said, tend to operate on the notion that 'there is no debate; there is a consensus." However, he noted, "there is a debate about everything.'"

The Real World VS the Democrats' Alternate Reality

Are you curious about WHY the Democrats continue to rant, rave, babble, dribble, and drool over the Foley affair?

Here's the REAL reason they're blowing this thing out of proportion.

Excerpt:

"Confident, prosperous Americans are entirely unaffected by the vile Democratic smear campaign...but in the Democrats' Alternate Universe, the rumor mill is saying that the Democrats have a list of closeted gay Republicans whom they will "out" in a bid to shock conservative Christians in to withdrawing support from the GOP, thus handing the mid-terms to the Democrats."

Greenhouse gas reduction program's effect would be MINIMAL

Let's repeat that.....any greenhouse gas reduction program's effect would be MINIMAL.

Excerpts:

“My impression is that the general discussion of global climate change has moved beyond Kyoto because both sides seem to agree that even full implementation of Kyoto would have a relatively small impact on greenhouse gas emissions or global climate change.”

“Every climatologist who has spoken to the commission has made the same argument: Kyoto would have no impact on global warming,” Cordato said. “The argument is based on a famous study by Dr. Thomas Wigley, a climate scientist, who demonstrated that over a 100-year period Kyoto would reduce the increase in global temperatures by 0.26 degrees Fahrenheit over what would occur if nothing were done.”

"The U.S. Energy Information Agency found that mandatory CO2 reductions similar to those required by Kyoto would result in hundreds of thousands of jobs lost in North Carolina, plus an 83 percent increase in electricity prices, a 53 percent increase in gasoline prices, and a 147 percent increase in natural gas prices."

How inconvenient for the True Believers!

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words....

This is one of those times.

Details.

(Sorry for the fuzzy image, but it was just TOO good to pass up.)

Laugh of the Day

Here.

I hope the wish comes true. Along with Diz, he's God's gift to the Republican party.

Regarding Torture

There's the Left's idea of "evil" torture, and then there's this.

Excerpts:

"To the men who used ropes and handcuffs to twist Heiliger's arms behind him until his shoulder blades touched and his arms went numb, the rules regarding humane treatment of prisoners of war were a joke."

"
Doughty saw the Abu Ghraib prison scandal photos and read about the convictions of American soldiers working as guards at the Baghdad prison. In Doughty's opinion, the Abu Ghraib prisoners were mistreated, not tortured."

And finally, the coup de grace:

"I wonder if liberals would be willing to bring their beloved 'Chicken Hawk' standard to bear on this issue: only those who actually have been tortured are allowed to offer an opinion on what it actually is. Somehow I doubt it."

The Dems think they can gin up a full blown scandal over the Foley mess

But as always, it's just more wishful thinking on their part, and Clarise Feldman has even more.....evidence of the Dem's skullduggery on this story.

Excerpt:

"But Democrats are attempting to make hay by alleging that the Republican leadership may have known about the inappropriate emails and covered them up for months. Their hope, no doubt, is to discourage turnout by disillusioned evangelical and other voters sensitive to moral issues. But the emerging background detail suggests that this is simply not the case, and that an attack strategy has been devised by parties anxious to damage the GOP and swing the coming election."
